Weekly Briefing: March 31

It’s been an extraordinary week. I really hope that you, your family and friends are keeping safe and well.

This is the?third of our weekly updates, and a lot’s changed in the last 7 days. Here’s a quick round up of the?latest industry reactions?to the CV-19 outbreak, and what?Fountain?has?been doing to try and help businesses.?

1.?Google are offering grants to small and medium sized businesses affected by Coronavirus

A fund of up to $340 million worth of ad credits has been released for small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) worldwide. This is so that these enterprises (which make up 90% of all businesses and more than half of employment worldwide, according to the World Bank) can continue to stay in touch with their customers at this crucial time, for less cost.

There are certain eligibility criteria in order to access the fund. We’re working with our dedicated team at Google to look at clients who qualify for the ad credits, and how to use this additional support to best effect.

2. And Facebook are offering ad credits too…

Facebook have also announced that they’re offering cash grants and ad credits, to keep companies’ marketing moving at the moment. This is available for up to 30,000 eligible business in countries where Facebook operates. PPC Marketing In a Time of Crisis

2. Article: PPC marketing in a time of crisis

“Here at Fountain we have seen?seismic changes?on accounts’ performance over the last seven days. It’s not all bad news – some clients remain strong, while others are doing even better than before the crisis – but we can all agree that consumer behaviours are changing in the context of Covid-19.”

PPC consultant Noel Hernandez has put together an excellent and informative article on industry changes, and how to approach?your PPC?marketing for the next few months.

3. Free webinar:?‘Digital Marketing when Demand Drops’

On Friday 27th, one of our co-founders, Marcus Hemsley presented a webinar to businesses all across the UK. In partnership with Barclays Eagle Labs, we want to offer as much advice and resources as we can to support businesses that might be finding their marketing challenging at this time. So, the hour-long session not only included a presentation on how to market online in our current landscape, but also a Q&A session so webinar attendees could put their concerns directly to Marcus.

Look out for more webinars in the future, but in the meantime, you can watch a recording of?Marcus’ presentation here.?

Small business owner? We’re working with Neil Foley – founder of the Business Growth Club – on our webinar ‘How should your business respond to CV-19’.

4. Fountain’s Agency Survey

As I’m sure many other agencies are also experiencing, we’ve had lots of clients ask us what other businesses are doing with their marketing following the outbreak of COVID-19. In response, we put together a very short survey to get a picture on the agency landscape during this time. Closing the survey after 5 days – with over 1000 clients’ activity sampled – the results were as follows:

3.4% of clients are spending more
61.3% of clients are spending the same
20.9% of clients are spending less
14.4% of clients are pausing spend

It’s important to note that the agencies we surveyed were from a variety of disciplines, from brand, to copywriting, to website development. If you have any questions about the results of the survey please do get in touch.
